The Lions bounced back from their defeat to Mwanba by walloping Strathmore 31-16 in a one sided encounter at the Impala grounds. Back into the fray was the evergreen versatile lock Paul Murunga, who played his first Kenya cup game after a long nagging injury.
KCB started slowly and at the ten minute mark conceded a try to Oscar Otindo who slipped through the backline to score a try. Ken Andoola kicked over the conversion for a seven point lead. KCB responded immediately with a try, worked by the forwards and Antony Ogot getting his try for the evening. Kiprono converted to tie up the scores at 7-7.
Strathmore were handed two penalties in succession which were kicked over by Andola for a 13-7 lead. Andrew Amonde got his first try for the evening courtesy of a well worked maul deep in the first half. Kiprono missed the conversion and at the break the scores were 13-12 in favour of Strathmore.
The second half was a completely different affair. The experienced forward controlled the game from start to finish. Amonde got his second try which was kicked over successfully by Kiprono. Strathmore got a penalty and kicked it over for their last contribution to the game to take the scores to 16-19.
Amonde got his third try after a superd mauling yet again by the steam rolling forwards. The conversion was however not successful. KCB landed a late try by Benjamin Ojema deep in the closing stages of the game and this time the conversion was successful. The game ended at 16-31.
KCB II drew 7-7 with Impala II in the first leg of the ESS semifinals.Maxwell Adaka got a late try after a tough battle by the forwards who left it late to earn a dramatic draw. The game was slow and with Hassan Mukinisu's boot showing his proficiency throughout the game, the score would have been more emphatic from KCB II.
In other scores, Mwamba fell to Impala 11-23, Quins were beaten by Machine 16-12 and Nakuru also fell to Nondies 7-8. This means KCB are back on top of the Kenya Cup table, joint on points with Impala but with are on top by goal difference.
