It wasn't the prettiest of matches,it wasn't a pretty match at all,but the mission was clear,to win, and they got their mission on track when Peter Mutai,who had featured for Kenya in their 35-15 defeat of Uganda in the Elgon Cup 24 hours earlier, opened the scoring with a 5th minute try.He was unable to convert this try.Winger Sebastian Shitambasi Shivoka "Superman" added the second try in the 15th minute following good work from the KCB backs.Mutai again missed the conversion.
Machine reduced the deficit to 10-3 after Joseph Kamau scored a penalty after an infringement by the Lions.Calvins Biko restored sanity in the KCB camp with a burst of speed that left his opponents clutching the air before touching down under the posts.Mutai was sure with this conversion as the Lions went into the break leading 17-3.
The second half saw Machine pin the Lions to their half.Fatigue also played a key role in Machine's second half dominance as most of the Lions players had turned out for Kenya in the thrilling Elgon Cup clash 24 hours earlier.Despite this,Machine could not breach the resolute KCB which had gone 317 minutes without conceding a try.The students were finally awarded a 77th minute penalty try converted by Farah Toya which brought the score to 17-10.
It was double joy for the Lions as Peter Mutai scooped the league top points scorer's award.
The Lions then headed to Ruaraka where they made merry into the wee hours of Monday morning.
Focus now shifts to the Enterprise Cup where the Lions are away to their great rivals Impala RFC on Saturday 18th August 2007.
