Lions beat Nakuru in ill tempered clash

The KCB Lions yesterday beat Nakuru RFC 14-0 in an ill tempered Kenya Cup clash .Referee F. Kilonzo was a beleaguered man as he had to face the wrath of infruriated KCB Head Coach Michael "Tank" Otieno over his decision making.Kilonzo sent Derek Wamalwa and Edwin Kiprono to the sin bin before sending off captain Paul "Pau" Murunga in the dying moments of the match. The match almost degenerated into a mass brawl at the final whistle.

Dennis Mwanja and Paul Murunga scored the tries that were both converted by Peter Mutai. The win puts KCB in pole position in the Kenya Cuo following Quins shock 18-27 home defeat at the hands of Mwamba RFC.

In the Eric Shirley Shield semi final first leg, hosts Strathmore University raced to a 19-0 half time lead following three quick fire tries to stun KCB Cubs 19-3 at the Nairobi School. The Cubs looked woeful in the opening half, badly let down by poor defence, knock ons and turnovers. The second half introduction of Kenya sevens legend Newton Ong'alo steadied the ship for the Cubs who looked solid, attacking more and scoring a consolation penalty through fly half Aaron Lubisia.Maybe the team that ended the second half should start in the return match scheduled for Saturday 7th July 2007 at The Lion's Den.
