KCB beat Mwamba

Curtis Olago who only scores tries in training finally scored in a competitive match for the Lions, scoring the third try as they romped to a 33-15 win over visiting Mwamba at the Lions Den yesterday evening.

One would be excused for thinking it was a match between Lions "Possibles" and "Probables" as the visitors forgot their kit and played in kit lent to them by KCB.

Back to the rugby, Calvins Biko who was imperious at fullback touched down after three minutes to give the Lions the lead.Winger Sammy "Waves" Wefwafawa missed all five conversion attempts in this half.

Ten minutes on the clock and Tito Oduk reduced the deficit for Mwamba, kicking over a penalty as the scores read 5-3.

"Waves" touched down in the seventeenth minute to take the scores to 10-3. He missed the conversion.

Scrum half Collins Kimani added the third, taking the scores to 15-3.

Then the moment came when Olago finally proved that he can score, touching down to give the Lions a 20-3 lead after twenty two minutes. This try, Lions fourth of the game secured them an early bonus point. "

Neil Wanjala Dick scored the fifth try on twenty eight minutes as the Lions stretched the lead to 25-3.

Tito Oduk kicked over two penalties as Mwamba went into the interval trailing 25-9.

Three minutes into the second half and Oduk added another penalty to close the scores to 25-12. Mwamba came strongly into the game but soon fizzled out.Prop John Macharia scored a rare try in the fifty sixth minute that saw the Lions lead 30-12.

Referee Godwin Karuga yellow carded Mwamba's fullback Steve Okeyo in the sixty sixth minute. Lions flanker Philip Wamae followed seconds later.

With both sides down to fourteen men, Oduk converted a penalty that brought the scores to 30-15. Lions second row "The Great" Ndale Moses was yellow carded in the seventy second minute, ensuring that the Lions would finish the game with fourteen men. Edwin Kiprono's penalty at the dearth saw the Lions win this one 33-15 and consolidate their second place.

In the curtain raiser Eric Shirley Shield, KCB Cubs led 40-0 at half time before killing off Mwamba's second 73-0 at the Lions Den. The Cubs are two victories away from securing a first ESS title since 2004.
