KCB RFC'S Awards Night

It was a night of pomp, colour and style when Kenya Commercial Bank
RFC held it's annual dinner and awards ceremony at The Lions' Den,
Ruaraka. The night began with several speeches including
er...one..er...speech...from er...the ...the er..the
captain...er...Paul Murunga...who...er...called...on the bank... to
er...give the team...er... external challenges (did he mean relocating
to Mombasa, or Portugal or playing in the Ugandan League or Super
14?)..Pau..please clarify.

Despite the absence of one of the architects of KCB's recent string of
successes that include three Kenya Cups, two Enterprise Cups, two
Impala Floodlit titles, Michael "Tank" Otieno, nearly every speaker
paid glowing tribute to "Tank" .KCB RFC extends its tribute to him as
well.

It was gratifying to see the likes of Sidney "Biggie" Mwai and Frank
"Big Nabz" Nabutola shed their oversize tee-shirts and jeans for well
cut suits, matching shirts and colourful ties.Dennis Mwanja wore a
badge laden blazer,Peter Mutai did something to his hair that we still
cannot comprehend, Ben Kiragu was masterful in his role as MC, though
he at times seemed to be choking from the bow tie around his
neck(Kiragu...stick to what you are comfortable with, you don't
experiment in a World Cup final.) .

Edward "Bomblast" Opiyo stole the show and it was no surprise that
Asiko "Bobu" Owiro declared him the best dressed gent on the night.

Coming to the awards,Kenya Sevens player Arnold Odera scooped the 2007
KCB RFC Player of the Year Award that came with a trophy and a Ksh
5000 cash gift.It has indeed been a great year for Odera, a year in
which he finally learnt how to dummy and sidestep, moved to flank from
second row, received a Kenya 15s call up and was as menacing as ever in
the tackle.Collins Kimani, from the Kimani sub tribe of KCB RFC won
the Most Promising Player Award with Ksh 5000 to boot.
